News From SWWSeptember 12, 2003: SWW Alumna Announces RoCo GrantSWW Alumna! Congratulations Elizabeth! Dan From: Rochester Contemporary FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS AWARDS GRANT TO ROCHESTER CONTEMPORARY ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (September 10, 2003) -- Rochester Contemporary (RoCo) announced today that it has received a $19,550 operating grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The grant is awarded to visual arts organizations that demonstrate a consistent track record of artistic achievement, public service, and managerial competence. "This is a strong vote of confidence during a time when public funding has been especially difficult to obtain because of budget cuts," says Elizabeth McDade, executive director of RoCo. Recently, RoCo has embarked on a new juncture in its 27-year history. On Friday October 3rd, the contemporary visual arts center will host celebrations to dedicate its new home, the first arts space to open in downtown Rochester in more than 20 years. Among the activities is the opening of the annual Upstate Invitational, which McDade describes as "an exhibition of provocative artwork by under-recognized and emerging regional artists." This year the show will feature the work of eight artists from Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca and Hamilton, NY. McDade says that new space and continued support from the New York State Council on the Arts and other patrons, will significantly aid its ability to fulfill its mission of serving as a major regional venue for contemporary art as it builds awareness for art as a vital part of daily life. #### Return to SWW News |
