On a whim, I checked out SWW on the web, and the first alum posting I saw was from my SISTER!!! (We really ought to keep in touch better, but who has the time?) I'm living in Sacramento, CA with my wife Lorri, and 3 year old son Ryan. I'm the AM director for KCRA-TV news. Nice to see posting from you all! [Sorry, Mike! This was misfiled - Holidays are heck around here! Betsy]

I have since given birth to my second girl, Kassandra Amelia. I am currently living in Rome, GA. So far we are loving the area. I am working at the local Holiday Inn. Full-time much to my dismay. But bills are bills and they do come.

Greetings Old Friends. Huge thanks to Betsy and whomever helped her create this site. Does anyone know where Jeff Heyer is? He is one amumni I have, sadly, heard nothing from since 1979. I'm a Real Estate agent in Battery Park City, NY. I have 2 kids: Sam 12, and Olivia,8. How are YOU?

I am currently finishing up my M.S. degree in Women's Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I only have my internship and thesis left to go. I will be doing both in Portland, OR. I will be doing my internship at the International Refugee Center of Oregon, working with victims of domestic violence. My thesis is on the continuities and discontinuities between second and third wave feminists (if anyone has any experience or feelings about either and would be willing to be interviewed over the phone, drop me a line.)
I've come a long way since my trouble-making days at SWW ;-), but my education and experience at SWW has helped me immensely -- especially in my feminist pedagogy class, which followed SWW philosophies to a T.

Hello. It's been 4 years since I graduated from SWW in 1998. I just graduated from SUNY Brockport and plan to move to Virginia in June. For those of you who remember Jamila Pendelton and Megan McPhail, they are doing great. Megan is expecting twins soon!

Hi Betsy,
I see you are class of '81; I am class of '74, and greeting you and all the other graduates of SWW.
I just want to say I am glad to know that SWW is still alive and well. I read Lew's 30 year anniversary speech. It sure brought back memories of Elton Street, and Lew himself.
Now that I am a mommy, facing education decisions for my son, I find myself looking for a mix of the traditional education and the less traditional. My own experience after SWW was both good and bad. I admit I am not sure where I stand on standardized tests. I know that every graduate of SWW will get an A in enthusiasm for anything they embark on. But, for me, there is the painful memory, also, of playing academic catch up -- in college, to catch up with the foundation in math and science I was lacking to compete at the U of R, and then in graduate school, too. Whether SWW misguided me, or left out what my mom used to call "the meat and potatoes", I will never know for sure. It could also be me, and my decisions. I only know for sure that I was behind my college classmates in crucial areas that I wanted to compete in, and this continued on into graduate school --I kept playing catch up, and never did completely did catch up.
So, while I understand we all want to throw up at the thought of YUK tests, we should also want to be able to compete in the world to get where we want to be. Sometimes academic foundation needs to be attended to. I am not saying the old, dry, boring way, but I am saying it needs to be attended to. When I was at SWW, it was only partially attended to. I hope it has changed for the better in this area.
So, that is that. As a graduate of this unique school, I feel duty bound to give feedback, 30 years later, on what I have learned in this experiment.
My son is in Montessori school. My husband and I fell in love with the philosophy behind it. It actually could be SWW for preschoolers! And, we are looking at the local Montessori school here that goes through 8th grade. It also reminds me in many ways of SWW. So, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Say hi to anyone who looks old enough to remember me.:):)

Here's a request for the members of this site. As you can see from the items posted below, Tom Mullaney, one of my best friends at SWW, died in November. He isn't alone - we've lost at least a half dozen people over time. So, now I have a special request. If you have memories you'd like to share with other SWW people, concerning students/alumni who are now gone, please go visit the Post Your News page and send in your memories.
We will be working over the next month to create "memorial pages" for these students, starting with Jo Dubner, Tom Mullaney, Paul Howden, Corky Davis, Leslie Holmes and Clarence "Huggie" Pettway. Note that you must be a registered member of this web site to view these pages.
I have yearbooks from the first 11 years of SWW, and will try to post photos of these students on the appropriate pages. If we're missing someone who should be remembered this way, please let us know - our records aren't entirely up to date, and you may know something we don't. And thanks very much for your help!
