Requirements for becoming a fully independent student:

Return to Table of Contents
  1. submit a student developed independent study proposal stating goals, methods, products (reports, journals, photo essays, TV programs, musical compositions, flying machines, etc.), and evaluation techniques.
  2. have regularly scheduled conferences with advisor
  3. keep journal of your reflections/thoughts on your independent project
  4. attend Friday morning decision making session in your extended class

Note: All independent study or work whether in extended class as a full or partial replacement for extended class responsibilities or as a separate activity for credit must be arranged and approved in advance, in writing and must follow these guidelines.

  1. Present a written proposal containing:
    1. goals
    2. resources
    3. work to be done
    4. schedule of conferences with independent study advisor
    5. amount of credit to be earned
    6. description of product
    7. terms of evaluation
  2. Secure written approval from your Extended Class Advisor first, then from the staff member or community resource person you will be working with.
  3. If the terms of the independent contracts are not met, the student must rejoin the extended class.
