  1. New York State DAR Scholarships - The requirements are: The student (male or female) must be in the top 25% of the Senior Class; plan to attend a 4 year college or university in New York State, A NYS resident and a U.S. citizen. Applications must be turned into Mike no later than 1:00 p.m., January 6, 2004. This deadline is absolute and NO extensions will be granted.

  2. SAT/ACT Registration Deadlines - The deadline for the January 24 SAT is December 22. You can register after these dates, BUT only by paying a substantial late fee.

  3. Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship - The Rochester chapter of Phi Delta Kappa is offering a $1,000 scholarship to five (5) area high school seniors who are interested in becoming educators. There is an essay required as a part of this application. The deadline is January 15, 2004.

  4. Polish Heritage Society Scholarship - To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be of polish descent (at least one parent) and live in Monroe County. The student must file an application by February 1, 2004.

  5. SWW Financial Aid Night - Thursday, January 8, 2004, 7:00 p.m.

  6. Minority Science Scholarship - This is a need-based scholarship in the amount of $250 or more. Any graduating senior who demonstrates financial need, academic proficiency, a GPA = 2.5 and who plans on attending a college or university with a major in the sciences is eligible to apply. The deadline is April 1, 2004.

  7. Applying for financial aid? - Start the process now! Go to www.pin.ed.gov and get your fafsa pin number. Also have one of your parents/guardians do the same. This pin # is your electronic signature. It will allow you to file your fafsa on-line, check the status of your fafsa and make any corrections on-line. Filing on-line will cut the response time by 50% or more.

  8. AXA Scholarships - There are 2 AXA scholarships. AXA Achievement $10,000 Scholarship - the deadline is December 15, 2003. (Sorry, I just received it.) Please see the criteria on the COLLEGE STUFF bulletin board outside of my office. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship - this $2,000 scholarship is for seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. The deadline for this scholarship is February 20, 2004.

  9. NYS PTA Jenkins Scholarship - This scholarship is for a senior pursuing a career in the Teaching profession. Criteria for judging are character and personality, academic achievement and potential teaching ability. Seniors planning to attend a SUNY college or a 2-year community college before transferring to a SUNY college for a baccalaureate in education are eligible. Only two (2) SWW students can be nominated by the staff. The SWW deadline is January 7, 2004.

  10. Evelyn Brandon Memorial Scholarship - This program has two categories; one for students with a GPA = 3.0 and the second is for students with a GPA = 2.5 who are planning on attending a historically Black College or University. This is an extensive application, so start it early. All applications and supporting materials must be received by the Urban League by March 1, 2004.

  11. SUNY applications are available in Mike's office. If you prefer, you can use the on-line application. Most SUNY schools are requiring that applicants fill out a part II that is specific to their particular campus.

  12. United Negro College Fund/Gates Millennium Scholarship - This scholarship is for African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Native Americans/Alaska Natives, and Hispanic Americans. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States; have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3; have demonstrated Federal Pell Grant eligibility as defined by the federal needs analysis formula; and demonstrated leadership commitment through participation in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities that reflect leadership abilities. This is a very lengthy application with multiple parts, so start the process early. Applications MUST be postmarked no later than January 16, 2004.

  13. Senior Interview Evaluations - Available in Mike's office.
