  1. New York State DAR Scholarships - The requirements are: The student (male or female) must be in the top 25% of the Senior Class; plan to attend a 4 year college or university in New York State, A NYS resident and a U.S. citizen. Applications must be turned into Mike no later than 1:00 p.m., January 6, 2004. This deadline is absolute and NO extensions will be granted.

  2. SAT/ACT Registration Deadlines - The deadline for the January 24 SAT is December 22. You can register after these dates, BUT only by paying a substantial late fee.

  3. Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship - The Rochester chapter of Phi Delta Kappa is offering a $1,000 scholarship to five (5) area high school seniors who are interested in becoming educators. There is an essay required as a part of this application. The deadline is January 15, 2004.

  4. Common Applications - A number of colleges and universities have gotten together and agreed to accept the same application. Check the poster either on the bulletin board outside of Mike's office or on the bulletin board in the main hallway to see if you are applying to any of the participating institutions. Mike has copies of the “Common Application” available for your use.

  5. Polish Heritage Society Scholarship - To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be of polish descent (at least one parent) and live in Monroe County. The student must file an application by February 1, 2004.

  6. College visits - Please see Mike before you make any college visits. You need to be properly prepared before you go.

  7. Minority Science Scholarship - This is a need-based scholarship in the amount of $250 or more. Any graduating senior who demonstrates financial need, academic proficiency, a GPA = 2.5 and who plans on attending a college or university with a major in the sciences is eligible to apply. The deadline is April 1, 2004.

  8. Hispanic Scholarship Fund - To be eligible you must be a graduating high school senior, class of 2004; be of Hispanic heritage (one parent fully Hispanic or each parent half Hispanic) and have a GPA = 3.0. Go to www.hsf.net or see Mike for an application. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3.000.

  9. Are you planning on applying to St. John Fisher College? Please see me ASAP for special scholarship opportunities.

  10. Senior Interviews - These are scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2003. The first interviews start at 9:00 a.m. and the last one starts at 11:55 a.m. You must see Mike to reserve your interview time. These interviews are a graduation requirement of the City School District. The necessary resume and cover letter must be to Mike no later than Tuesday, December 2 at 2:00p.m. so they can be forwarded to the interviewers.

  11. Evelyn Brandon Memorial Scholarship - This program has two categories; one for students with a GPA = 3.0 and the second is for students with a GPA = 2.5 who are planning on attending a historically Black College or University. This is an extensive application, so start it early. All applications and supporting materials must be received by the Urban League by March 1, 2004.

  12. Hispanic Support Organization of New York - Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified and deserving Hispanic students. Go to www.hispanicsupportorganization.org for more information and an application.

  13. SUNY applications are available in Mike's office. If you prefer, you can use the on-line application. Most SUNY schools are requiring that applicants fill out a part II that is specific to their particular campus.

  14. United Negro College Fund/Gates Millennium Scholarship - This scholarship is for African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Native Americans/Alaska Natives, and Hispanic Americans. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States; have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3; have demonstrated Federal Pell Grant eligibility as defined by the federal needs analysis formula; and demonstrated leadership commitment through participation in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities that reflect leadership abilities. This is a very lengthy application with multiple parts, so start the process early. Applications MUST be postmarked no later than January 16, 2004.

  15. Rochester Area Colleges Instant Application Day @ SWW - Friday, December 5, 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Big Room. Participating colleges are: Finger Lakes Community College, Genesee Community College, Keuka College, Monroe Community College, Nazareth College, Roberts Wesleyan College, St. John Fisher College, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo and the University of Rochester. You will need your resume, course summaries and course evaluations if you want to submit your application on that date. Watch your e-mail for additional information.

  16. Considering living in the MCC dorms? - Please see Mike as soon as possible to learn about application deadlines and the required deposit.

  17. Ithaca College Scholarship - MLK Scholarship candidates typically rank in the top 10% of their class and have a combined SAT score of 1200 or higher. See Mike for additional information. The deadline for this scholarship is December 15, 2003.

  18. Historically Black College Common Application - Apply to all 29 member institutions with one application. Transcripts, resumes, essays, test scores and recommendations must still be sent to each individual college. See Mike if you are interested.
