  1. New York State DAR Scholarships - The requirements are: The student (male or female) must be in the top 25% of the Senior Class; plan to attend a 4 year college or university in New York State, A NYS resident and a U.S. citizen. Applications must be turned into Mike no later than 1:00 p.m., January 6, 2004. This deadline is absolute and NO extensions will be granted.

  2. SAT/ACT Registration Deadlines - The deadline for the December 13 ACT is November 7. The deadline for the December 6 SAT is October 30. You can register after these dates, BUT only by paying a substantial late fee.

  3. College Nights at the Malls - Tuesday, October 21, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. @ Marketplace Mall.

  4. Common Applications - A number of colleges and universities have gotten together and agreed to accept the same application. Check the poster either on the bulletin board outside of Mike's office or on the bulletin board in the main hallway to see if you are applying to any of the participating institutions. Mike has copies of the “Common Application” available for your use.

  5. Dental Hygienist, Massage Therapy & Nursing programs @ MCC - Are you considering applying to any of these programs @ MCC? If you are, then your application should be submitted as soon as possible. These are three of the most popular and competitive programs @ MCC or any other college.

  6. College visits - Please see Mike before you make any college visits. You need to be properly prepared before you go.

  7. University of Buffalo Open House - Saturday, October 18, 2003. Register today! Go to www.buffalo.edu/openhouse or call 1-888-UB-ADMIT.

  8. SAT II's - Does the college you're applying to require SAT II's? Will they take the ACT instead? You should know the answer to these questions already.

  9. Coca-Cola Scholars Program - This is a national scholarship program that specifically looks for the well-rounded student. Applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Go to www.coca-colascholars.org to apply. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY OCTOBER 31.

  11. FingerLakes Community College - Fall Visitation Day is Tuesday, November 11, 2003. Go to www.flcc.edu/admissions to register.

  12. SAT - Practice tests for the SAT are available in Mike's office.

  13. St. John Fisher College Open Houses - Saturday, October 18, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Call 385-8064 to register or register on-line at www.sjfc.edu/openhouse.html.

  14. Hobart and William Smith Colleges - College information workshop on Wednesday, 10/22, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. here in Rochester. Call Donna Wolfe at 800-245-0100 or e-mail wolfe@hws.edu to register.

  15. Medaille College Open House - Sunday, November 2, 2003, 10:30 a.m. Call 800-292-1582 to make a reservation or for more information.

  16. Hispanic Support Organization of New York - Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to qualified and deserving Hispanic students. Go to www.hispanicsupportorganization.org for more information and an application.

  17. SUNY applications are available in Mike's office. If you prefer, you can use the on-line application. Most SUNY schools are requiring that applicants fill out a part II that is specific to their particular campus.

  18. United Negro College Fund/Gates Millennium Scholarship - This scholarship is for African Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Native Americans/Alaska Natives, and Hispanic Americans. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States; have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3; have demonstrated Federal Pell Grant eligibility as defined by the federal needs analysis formula; and demonstrated leadership commitment through participation in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities that reflect leadership abilities. This is a very lengthy application with multiple parts, so start the process early. Applications MUST be postmarked no later than January 16, 2004.

  19. December SAT Test Center - East High School was inadvertently left off of the SAT test center list. If you are taking the December SAT and wish to take your exam at East, you may choose test center # 33-806.

  20. MCC Nursing Program Information Night - Tuesday, October 21, 2003, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Call Donna Price at 292-2460 to reserve your spot for the presentation.

  21. Portfolio Review Day - Sunday, October 19, 2003 at RIT. Call 475-2647 for additional information.

  22. Keuka College Open House - Saturday, October 18. Call 800-33keuka or send an e-mail to admissions@mail.keuka.edu for more information.

  23. University of Buffalo Open House - Saturday, October 18, 2003. To register call 1-888-UB-ADMIT or go to www.buffalo.edu/openhouse.

  24. Ithaca College Scholarship - MLK Scholarship candidates typically rank in the top 10% of their class and have a combined SAT score of 1200 or higher. See Mike for additional information. The deadline for this scholarship is December 15, 2003.

  25. Pathways Plan - I am required to fill out a Pathways Plan with all SWW students. I have started calling for Seniors. If you have a few minutes, please stop down so I don't have to send a note to you.

  26. Senior In-service - Scheduled for Tuesday, October 21 9:30 - 12:30. All Seniors will rotate between the three workshops. See the list on the bulletin board outside of Mike's office for your group assignments.

Update your Summaries of Course Involvement and Resume.

Be sure to check the bulletin board in the main hallway and outside the Counseling Office for new information and opportunities.
