Mike's Place: Senior Bulletin # 30

  1. Mary L. Wright Scholarship - This scholarship is available to a Rochester area resident. The criteria are: applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and must submit an official transcript including available senior grades; demonstrate financial need to attend college, provide proof of enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college by September 30, 2003, and provide two (2) recommendations on the approved forms. The application must be received by the committee no later than April 30, 2003.

  2. Peter Castle Memorial Scholarship/Grant-In-Aid - The Rochester Teachers Association will award three (4) scholarships of $1,000 each to Seniors graduating from Rochester public high schools. Any student who will graduate in June and plans to continue his/her education is eligible. Candidates must have an overall academic average of 80% or better. One scholarship is for general students. The second is for a student pursuing a career in teaching. The third is the Gordon Dorway Science Award which is given to a student pursuing a career in Science. The fourth will be offered to a high school Senior who is the son or daughter of an RTA member. All applications must be postmarked no later than April 25, 2003.

  3. Next Senior Meeting - Friday, May 9, 11:30. Certificate of Employability, programs & invitations are all on the agenda.

  4. Where are your college applications?

  5. Pop Warner Scholarship - Did you ever play Pop Warner Football or were you a cheerleader for Pop Warner Football? If so, you should apply for one (1) of the two (2) $500 scholarship. You must have a GPA = 3.0 to qualify. The deadline is May 25, 2003.

  6. Where are your course summaries and resumes?

  7. Nona Patterson Chambers Scholarship - This scholarship is for African American women graduating from a high school in the Greater Rochester area who plan to attend college in September 2003. In addition to the application, which requires an essay, there is a mandatory interview on Saturday, May 17, 2003. The deadline to apply is May 5, 2003.

  8. Senior Deadlines - They will start to come fast and furious. Use your Senior Project Checklist I gave you in September. There is also a copy in your Senior Handbook.

  9. Greater Rochester Area Payroll Association - $250 scholarships available to students with a B average, who will be attending a college within a 50 mile radius of Rochester and pursuing a career in business. The deadline is April 30, 2003.

  10. Fred & Floy Willmott Foundation Scholarship - There are two (2) scholarships of $1,000 each for students entering college for art and two (2) scholarships of $1,000 each for students entering college for elementary education. The deadline is Monday, May 5, 2003.

  11. MCC National Science Foundation CSEMS Scholarship Program - The NSF-CSEMS program is designed to provide financial assistanceand comprehensive academic enhancement servicesto academically talented and low-income students to enhance their successful matriculation and graduation in Computer Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology and/or Mathematics at Monroe Community College. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must: be a U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need,have a cumalative GPA = 2.5 and be enrolled in one of the following programs; Computer Science, Engineering, Engineering Technology and/or Mathematics. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is May 30, 2003.

  12. Please pick up your Certificate of Employability paper work as soon as possible.

Update your Summaries of Course Involvement and Resume and get them to Mike.

Be sure to check the bulletin board in the main hallway and outside the Counseling Office for new information and opportunities.
