Selecting and Applying to College

Selecting a College that suits YOU:

● Do I qualify as a candidate based on -----(College Name)----- requirements?

                    --SAT/ACT range?

                    --GPA and courses taken?

● Does the school have an environment that suits me?

                    --Small vs. Large campus/Distance from home?

                    --Majors and Extra-Curricular activities offered?

                    --Rural, Suburban, or Urban?

                    --Dorms vs. Community Living?

Type of Admission (Watch those deadlines!!):

● Rolling—A review of applications occurs throughout the year.

● Regular—Specific deadlines are stated for when to apply, receive a letter, receive financial aid package.

● Early Action—If applying by said deadline (usually in Oct./Nov.) a decision on your acceptance will be determined by December and you can still apply to other schools in the process.

● Early Decision—If applying by said deadline (same as above) a decision on your acceptance will be determined by December and you will need to withdraw all other applications from other colleges. You will agree to attend the Early Decision college, regardless of what financial aid package is provided.

How to Apply for College:

1. Request an application or download one online at the school’s website.
2. Fill out the application and bring it to Jamie for review.
3. Gather 5-7 Course Summaries from throughout your years here at SWW and 6-8 Course Evaluations (1 from each core area, 1 from an extended class, and 2-3 “other” classes or additional core areas if applying to a specific major).
4. Request a letter of recommendation from a teacher, advisor, employer, or non-relative who knows you and your abilities best!
5. Complete your Senior Year Courses in Progress (see template on next page).
6. MAKE COPIES!!! One for each school AND an additional copy to put in your file.
7. Make an appointment with Jamie to process your application.

DO NOT SUBMIT ANYTHING WITHOUT TALKING TO JAMIE FIRST!!!!
