Extended ClassREEL TEENS
REEL TEENS: An extended class where teens and the issues they face are the stars. All of the films we study will have lead portrayals of teens. Don't expect much funny business in this extended class: the issues teens face on screen range from war to school, drug abuse to religion, families to gangs. This course will take a serious look at what is happening behind the camera as well, learning about direction, cinematography and screenwriting. Films will come from all over the world and different eras, including Kids, Europa Europa, American Graffiti, Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting. Major projects will include writing a short screenplay, and producing a short film with others in the class. All movies viewed in class will be studied before viewing and reviewed individually after. If you are looking for insight on issues that teens and many others face everyday, and you want to do it through a popular, powerful medium such as the movies, REEL TEENS may be the extended class for you.
