News From SWW
August 15, 2002 Letter to Alumni
August 15, 2002
Dear Rochester-area SWW Alumni,
The School Without Walls Community Board is looking for a few, good alumni, who are willing to meet a few times a year to assist SWW in achieving its goals. Presently, the Board is engaged in the following tasks:
- Organizing SWW teachers, parents, alumni, alumni parents, and community supporters to speak on behalf of SWW at the upcoming NYS Legislative Hearings regarding the impact of Regents Exams on teaching and learning. This our big opportunity to influence the State Legislature to take some action against the Commissioner ,who is now requiring SWW students to pass 5 Regents Exams to graduate.
- Organizing a NY State-wide Experimental Schools Organization that would be connected to the State University system for the purpose of enhancing our status in NYS, thereby giving us more legitimacy and political clout.
- Organizing a two-month advertising campaign to recruit new students for SWW
- Planning future reunions for SWW alumni
- Responding to present SWW teacher and student requests for assistance
- Developing new, creative initiatives to help SWW
If you live near Rochester and are interested in helping your alma mater, we would appreciate your participation. Hmmmmm! Sounds a bit like community service! Yes it is! And it's a labor of love! If you can't participate, maybe your parents or guardians might be interested. Please join us in protecting and preserving SWW.
Sincerely,
Dan Drmacich
Principal
