September 24, 2001 Letter to Alumni

September 24, 2001

Dear School Without Walls Alumnus,

I trust all is going well with you. I have two requests of you:

  1. As many of you know, the School Without Walls Community Board has been an active organization for the past 30 years, serving as an advocate to protect and advocate for our school. Would you be interested in serving on this board? We meet 6 times each year for approximately 1 ½ hours each meeting. Our next meeting is Thursday November 15th, from 4:30-6:00 P.M. at School Without Walls on 480 Broadway. Please call me at 546-6732, ext. 1015, if you are interested. We will be addressing several important agenda items, including:

    • Political Action to Save School Without Walls
    • Financial planning to aid School Without Walls
    • Planning 1970's Reunion
    • School Without Walls Public Relations

  2. In our last letter to you, I urged all alumni to write a letter to their local legislators to urge support for the Susan John Assembly Bill. This bill would give power for local school boards to allow any parent to "opt" their children out of any Regents exam. Obviously, this legislation would be a major help to School Without Walls and similar schools throughout New York State. Enclosed, you will find a letter to School Without Walls parents with several reasons included in opposition to high-stakes, standardized Regents Exams. Please feel free to use this letter as a frame of reference for writing a political-action letter, if you have not already written one. Your letters will have an impact. Please help us by writing.

Thanks for your assistance. I hope to see some of you at our next Community Board meeting.

Sincerely,

Dan Drmacich
Principal
