Graduation Requirements

Students who want to graduate from School Without Walls with a City School District diploma must:

  1. meet all graduation requirements of School Without Walls, the Board of Education and New York State.
  2. complete a Senior Project.
  3. be recommended for graduation by a Senior Project committee.

*The State requires students to take English and Physical Education every year that they are in school.
** Units of Study before Grade 10

"Anything" - these credits may be earned in all areas except physical education. Only two credits of reading and work experience can count towards graduation.

Graduation by Demonstration

* All students must complete all Entry, Institute and Senior Institute requirements in order to be eligible for graduation. These demonstration requirements include subject area demonstrations, credit accumulation and successful completion of the required RCT and/or Regent exams until SWW obtains waivers for these exams.

Credits needed to Graduate:

23.5
(25.5 - Class of 2005 & after)

Sequences needed (Students entering 9th grade prior to September 2001.)

Two 3 unit sequences
OR One 5 and one 3 unit
OR One 5 unit sequence
No specific sequence required for students entering 9th grade in September 2001 or later.

RCT's / Regent's Exams Required

Regents Comprehensive English Exam or the AP Literature and Composition exam, AP Language and Composition exam or the International Baccalaureate English Standard Level assessment.

Regents Science Exam (Starting with the Class entering grade 9 in 2001)

Regents Math Exam (Starting with Class entering grade 9 an 2001) or the International Baccalaureate Mathematics Standard Level assessment.

Global History & Geography Regents Exam (Starting with Class entering grade 9 an 2001)

U.S. History and Government Regents (Starting with the Class entering grade 9 in 2001)

Two units of study in foreign language before grade 10.
Starting with the Class entering grade 9 an 2001, One credit by the end of grade 9; pass the course and take a local exam. For a majority of students the Foreign Language Proficiency exam will be completed by the end of grade 8 and will meet the requirement that way.

Community Service Credits: 3

Note: Class of 2001 through the Class of 2004 will take the Comprehensive English exam.
